Indie Lab: a filmmaking laboratory for young artists

The Laboratory was founded in 2013 with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine. Participants from various regions of Ukraine learn how to edit their short documentaries at two training sessions a year. Although this training is the first filmmaking and editing experience for some participants, their hard work at Indie Lab results in 10 short documentaries every year. Indie Lab mentors, filmmakers from Ukraine and the USA, help our participants to bring their ideas to life – a short documentary ready for screening. Indie Lab members have made 30+ documentary films screened at 50+ international festivals.

Indie Lab participants:
  • Film school students
  • Non-professional documentary filmmakers
  • Representatives of civil society organizations
Indie Lab films cover various issues including:
  • Inclusive society (LGBTs, people with special needs, gender equality)
  • Civil society development, responsibility of the government
  • Environment protection
